Off to pack up some models for the Perth show this weekend :o)
Here are some pictures of the third colour, Dunkelgrau base. You can start to see the subtle colour variation coming through as the colour progressively gets lighter. I kept to the main panels and omitted spraying into the corners so as to keep the darker shadow colours intact.

This weekend, saturday 28th and Sunday 29th April is the Scottish national scale model show at Dewars centre, Perth. A great occasion to see some of the best models around. All scales and subjects are usually represented. I'll be there with IPMS Edinburgh/Lothian model club. Maybe see you there!

Finally got round to the second coat of grey, Dunkelgrau shadow. I sprayed this over most of the model but left the previous darker coat on the hull bottom and rear and front plates. My aim was to create a subtle difference between the two coats. It's a bit cleared on the wheels. I also sprayed the tool clamps and the exhaust straps as in this picture. The smaller details that i had omitted have now been added. i hope to have a few coats added by the end of this week.

Back to the Panzer II and it's painting. After i had put on the shadow coat, i noticed a few smaller parts were missing and i had forgot to add the conduit for the head lamps. I am working on this and the other additions at the moment and hope to post further paint shots soon. I was so keen to get painting, i just forgot to check the model over!
Sword and Lance model show
Yesterday i went to Darlington Military Model Society's annual show, Sword and Lance. I was part of Edinburgh's Lothian Model club display. 6 of us were in attendance and we all had a great day out. I was very impressed by the extremely high standard of painting, particularly figures and busts. I hope to attend next year, it was that good a show. There was a talk on the application of Zimmerit, which was very informative. I will need to do another one now!
Here are some pictures i took from both club displays and the competition.

Here is the first colour called Dunkelgrau shadow. No thinner or varnish was added to the paint as i was unsure if it would be compatible with my usual Vallejo brand. It was applied with no problem at all. Quick drying and has left a nice tight finish on the plastic. I sprayed it onto the hull sides, front and back plates. The bottom of the turret and around the outer rims of the wheels and drive sprockets. My aim here is to create a subtle shadow with future lighter colours. The hope is that the darker colour will be evident under neath the lighter tones.
The new paint set has arrived. I didn't even get a chance to look at the parade of shame, so it will remain untouched for another wee while.
In the box is 7 bottles of acrylic paint, thinned and ready for use. The painting guide lacks information and is a series of pictures on the back of the box. Perhaps a small guide would be useful. I have looked at the principles of colour modulation and as i wrote before, i have tried it so i'm sure i'll be able to use this set without too much effort.
Top tip. When ordering from the internet, always check your shopping cart before proceeding. I say this because i managed to buy 2 sets of these paints. So dear readers if there is a plethora of early war tanks on these pages, interested as i am, it may be to use the paints up!
I have a Panzer III N to do and was thinking of a North Africa version but perhaps another grey one may grace this blog...

Here is the Panzer II in a grey undercoat. I use Halfords automotive aerosol. As this is an early war machine, grey will be the primary colour. I have been dabbling with colour modulation and highlights on a few recent projects and so i have decided have a go at another modulation effect. For this i am using AK Interactive Panzer grey set. It's ordered and await delivery.
In the meantime i will look through the parade of shame (half built, have painted projects) for inspiration to finish one of them off. Until then...
