I was in Dublin at the weekend and managed to go along to the Irish Model Soldier Society show 2012 at Dublin Castle. Here are some pictures of the splendid models.

I have now added filter to the tank. I used another AK Interactive product, blue for Panzer grey. I've never used this before so it's been a trial for me. I applied the filter straight onto the paint, in hindsight perhaps a satin varnish would have been better sprayed onto the paintwork prior to the filter. I found it a bit too dark and thought it was going to be a disaster. However i slowly worked away with it and managed to control the filter. I was still a bit sceptical once it was added but after a period of drying, it looks ok and the modulated colours still come through, so not as bad as i thought! i will definitely use a satin coat the next time. It will aid the flow of the filter and better control it. You live and learn.

At last! the final coat of paint, Dunkelgrau Shine has been added. I didn't apply too much colour onto the tank. I kept it to the very highest points of the turret and its front sloping plate, headlights, tool clasps and storage boxes. There was slight overspray in a few areas so these were touched up by using the Dunkelgrau base colour. I sprayed this over certain areas to give a more blended look. Next up is a filter, this will be applied over the whole tank and i will be starting the detail painting. Wheels, tools and guns.

Here is the penultimate paint coat, Dunkelgrau highlight. I kept the colour to the higher points of the model. Turret, hatches, headlights and stowage boxes on the rear of the tank. You can see quite a range of colours now.

Here is the next colour for the Panzer II, Dunkelgrau light base. This application of paint was kept to the higher parts of the model. Top armour plates, turret and engine deck. You can start to see the various colours of previous applications on the vehicle. Note the dark ring around the turret area, this is to create a shadow for when the turret is in place. There are two further stages in the paint process, then i will start the weathering with filters and washes.
